TV Box Remotes Compared: IR, Bluetooth and Voice
The remote is the part you touch most; picking the wrong technology stings daily.
Three technologies
- IR: cheap and pairing-free, but needs line of sight;
- Bluetooth: omnidirectional, wall-friendly — and voice input rides on it;
- 2.4 GHz: lowest latency (under 10 ms), best for motion/game remotes.
Going remote-free
HDMI-CEC lets the TV remote drive the box (channels, back, home); add a phone app as a touchpad and most homes can retire the box remote entirely.
Buying advice: Bluetooth voice remote for your main box; IR only for spares.
