WiFi6 Coverage in Practice: RT28 as an Access Point, Measured
The ISP’s free router has terrible Wi-Fi. Mounting an RT28 as an AP is many homes’ cheapest upgrade.
Measured
- Same room: 1201 Mbps negotiated, 850 Mbps real;
- Two walls (5 GHz): 320 Mbps — 4K streaming untouched;
- Roaming: with 802.11k/v, router↔RT28 handoff under 100 ms;
- Channels: use 5 GHz bands 36/149 and dodge neighbor DFS interference.
Topology
Wire the RT28 back to the main router as an AP; keep the main router in the utility box as the egress. Two APs cover a 120㎡ three-bedroom at half the cost of a mesh kit.
