Machine-Vision Inspection Lines: From Camera Choice to Cycle Time
Many teams pick a model and then discover it won’t keep up. The right order: throughput → per-frame budget → required compute → part number.
Compute takt before compute power
- Reverse-engineer takt: at 60 parts/minute across 4 stations each inference gets roughly 200ms — reserve half for capture and post-processing;
- Cameras and buses: GigE Vision or USB3, and mind USB controller grouping — don’t put four cameras on one controller;
- Form factor: a single box with an industrial board plus an M.2 compute module keeps changes minimal and thermal design simple.
Before acceptance, run an 8-hour production test — ten clean minutes in the lab says nothing about overnight reliability.
