Low-Power NAS Tiers: From 2 W to 20 W
A NAS runs 24/7, so the power curve matters more than peak performance.
Four tiers
- RK3528 (2-4 W): single-disk backup/download tier;
- RK3588 (3-8 W): two bays + full Docker stack + hardware transcoding;
- N100 (6-15 W): many bays + light virtualization;
- x86 (15-40 W): ZFS, multiple VMs, 10 GbE.
Electricity math
5 W vs 20 W continuous is ~1,300 RMB over five years — often the entire price gap between tiers. Choosing a tier is really about not paying electricity for performance you won’t use.
