From Prototype to Production: Certification, Thermal & Supply Chain for Embedded Hardware

02A EDGE-RK3576 V1.1

Turning a development board into a shippable device crosses the “deep water” of engineering. This article walks through certification, thermal design and supply chain — the practical path from prototype to mass production.

1. Certification First

Industry-facing devices often require CCC, CE, FCC or similar. Reserve certification margin at the carrier-design stage (EMC filtering, grounding, antenna isolation) to avoid rework before production.

2. Thermal Design

A flagship-class platform like RK3588 draws meaningful power under load. Industrial designs commonly use metal-enclosure passive cooling with thermal pads, or active fans; the IPA-RK3588 industrial control board adopts wide-temperature and ruggedized design for harsh environments.

3. Supply Chain & Manufacturability

  • Core-board strategy: a proven core board reduces carrier complexity and shortens the NPI cycle;
  • ODM collaboration: from ID/MD and PCBA to final assembly with a vendor that has ODM capability;
  • Long-lead parts: lock SoC, PMIC and Memory early to secure delivery.

4. Routing & Gateway

For network-edge devices, the EDGE-RT28 industrial router board provides a reference design for DSA switching and multi-port networking.
