Elevator Ad-Screen Players: Hardening for a Hostile Spot
Elevators are the harshest home for a player: constant vibration, daily power cuts, never anyone to fix it.
Three differences from ordinary signage
- Vibration: shaft vibration loosens SATA connections — eMMC storage is the only answer;
- Power cuts: dozens per day as elevators start/stop; the filesystem must survive them;
- Maintenance radius: spread across hundreds of buildings — remote management is the only channel.
Hardening checklist
- eMMC instead of spinning or exposed drives;
- Hardware watchdog + auto power-on;
- 4G connectivity (property managers won’t run cable);
- Resumable content sync from the CMS.
An RK3576 player meeting all four survives three years in an elevator.
