DLNA, AirPlay, Chromecast: The Casting Protocol Showdown
The casting wars boil down to one question: push or mirror.
Three families
- DLNA/CAST+: push — the TV decodes, the phone just sends a link; most efficient and smoothest;
- AirPlay: both push and mirror, native to Apple, best picture quality;
- Miracast/mirroring: full-screen mirror for games and non-video content.
Home setup advice
- Video: prefer DLNA or a direct Jellyfin client — the TV decides quality;
- Apple households: an AirPlay-capable box or TV;
- Gaming: no wireless mirror is low-latency; a cable is the answer.
