Developer Support and Documentation: What to Check Before Buying a Board

Buying the board is easy; filling the support gap isn’t. Check six things first.

The checkpoints

  • Documentation: schematics, pinouts, SDK — publicly downloadable?
  • Firmware cadence: last release date; over 12 months is a red flag;
  • Kernel: which LTS and until when — this sets the OS lifespan;
  • Community: forum/GitHub response speed; search whether your exact issue has answers;
  • Samples: runnable demos for GPIO, NPU and video interfaces;
  • Commercial channel: is there an FAE path for production projects?

Self-test

Register, download the SDK and try a build — the whole experience is the best litmus test of support quality.
