The Bulk-Purchase Guide: From RFQ to Receiving
B2B hardware buying is project management, not shopping. Five stages, each with a deliverable.
The five stages
- RFQ: specify config, volume, certifications and lead time — only then are quotes comparable;
- Sample validation: test against an acceptance list (performance, ports, 72 h burn-in); no pass, no next stage;
- Contract: lock config versions, QC standards (AQL 2.5) and EOL terms;
- Tracking: request photo/video milestones; audit the first batch on-site or by video;
- Acceptance: sampling plan written into the contract; 100% power-on before warehousing.
Three sayings from veteran buyers
“Samples must be built on the mass-production process.” “QC standards exist only when they’re in the contract.” “Always pad the schedule by 5%.”
