Upgrading to 2.5 GbE at Home: The Complete Checklist
2.5 GbE is today’s best-value home network upgrade — but one bottleneck anywhere wastes it all.
Checklist
- ONT: ask your ISP for a 2.5G-port unit (usually free);
- Main router: WAN/LAN at 2.5G minimum;
- Switch: 2.5G switches have fallen under 200 RMB;
- Clients: a USB3 2.5G adapter (~60 RMB) for NAS and your main PC;
- Cabling: Cat5e handles 2.5G fine; Cat6 is nicer — no rewiring needed.

Wi-Fi clients (WiFi6 airtime suffices) and internet-only old PCs. Priority: NAS↔main PC first, then download paths, the rest later.
