SoM Selection Checklist: 12 Hardware Parameters to Confirm
Once a SoM is in production, every missing parameter becomes carrier-board rework. Confirm this list in writing.
Move the questions to selection time
- Electrical and mechanical: connector type and stack height, board thickness, mounting holes, DDR capacity and bus width, operating temperature range;
- Interface resources: available PCIe lanes and generation, SATA/USB counts and speeds, Ethernet MAC count, display outputs and max resolution;
- Software and supply: BSP kernel version and update cadence, SDK delivery format, MOQ and committed supply years.
Ask the vendor for a signed SoM specification confirmation sheet — standard practice in serious ODM work and cheap insurance against later disputes.
