Developer Support and Documentation: What to Check Before Buying a Board
Buying the board is easy; filling the support gap isn’t. Check six things first.
The checkpoints
- Documentation: schematics, pinouts, SDK — publicly downloadable?
- Firmware cadence: last release date; over 12 months is a red flag;
- Kernel: which LTS and until when — this sets the OS lifespan;
- Community: forum/GitHub response speed; search whether your exact issue has answers;
- Samples: runnable demos for GPIO, NPU and video interfaces;
- Commercial channel: is there an FAE path for production projects?
Self-test
Register, download the SDK and try a build — the whole experience is the best litmus test of support quality.
