HS86 vs X88: Two Product Lines, Two Philosophies
HS86 and X88 share Rockchip silicon but are deliberately positioned apart.
Positioning
- HS86 series: the home flagship line — the extra budget goes into audio (SPDIF/ARC), remotes and system polish; living-room main-unit material;
- X88 series: the scenario all-rounder — a model matrix from entry to mid-range, suited to multi-room, projects and tinkerers;
- Firmware: HS86 updates favor stability, X88 favors speed — families prefer the former, hackers the latter.
How to choose
One main living-room unit: HS86. Multi-room, rentals, gifting or Armbian experiments: X88. They’re not rivals — “one HS86 plus a few X88” is a common household combo.
