A 24/7 Download Box on RK3588: The Low-Power Recipe

Download boxes work at night when nobody’s watching, so power is everything. The RK3588 bill:

Recipe

• Base: RK3588 unit with SATA/USB drive bays;
• Downloader: Dockerized qBittorrent with a web UI for remote adds;
• Disk sleep: spin down after 30 min idle — 2 W whole-box at night;
• Auto-sorting: completed downloads filed into NAS folders by type.

Cost of ownership

At 16 active hours plus idle time, the yearly electricity bill is trivial — and the savings versus an x86 box buy a new hard drive every three years. Add AdGuard and Jellyfin and it’s a complete home media pipeline.
