Samba File Server on RK3588: A Family Share Done Right

A family file share doesn’t need a Synology — an RK3588 running Samba covers it.

Measured throughput

Gigabit port: 112 MB/s SMB writes — wire speed;
2.5 GbE port: 270 MB/s+ writes, now limited by the drive itself;
Concurrency: four devices reading/writing without stepping on each other;
Clients: Windows mapped drives, macOS Finder, mobile file managers — all fine.

Permission layout

Three shares — family public, personal private, backup vault — with read-only and read-write accounts, plus a nightly rsync to a second disk. That’s a complete home data safety net.
