RK3588 NPU on the Production Line: What 6 TOPS Actually Delivers
GPU costs scare off many industrial-vision projects. RK3588’s 6-TOPS NPU fills the middle ground.
Line-measured workloads
- Defect classification: MobileNet/YOLO-nano models at 20-40 ms/frame, 25-30 fps sustained;
- Barcode + locate: classical CV fused with NPU classification, two cameras at once;
- Power: the whole vision unit at 8-10 W — fits inside a camera housing;
- Cost: 1/5 to 1/3 of a GPU-based build.
Where it ends
Large segmentation models and dense high-res inspection still need GPUs. But for “one camera, one judgment” distributed QC, RK3588 is becoming the default. RKNN toolchain docs are in our documentation center.
