RK3588 All-in-One: Router, NAS and Media Box in One Machine
Desktop x86 all-in-one boxes draw 60 W or more. With 4×A76 + 6×A55 cores idling at 2-3 W, RK3588 has become the new favorite for home one-box-does-all builds.
Three roles, one box
- Soft router: OpenWrt as main or side router; dual 2.5 GbE NAT at line rate;
- NAS: Samba + Docker apps on USB/NVMe drives for centralized photos and media;
- Media: Jellyfin server plus 8K decode feeding the TV directly;
- OS layout: OpenWrt on eMMC as the always-on boot, Debian on an NVMe partition — no interference;
- Power loss: auto power-on and watchdog keep it alive through outages.
Fit and limits
For a typical home with 2.5 GbE LAN and 3-4 resident services, RK3588 has plenty of headroom. ZFS arrays or dozens of VMs still belong on x86 — but that’s not what most people actually need.
